Pro removes the pilot limit and adds Deep Dives, project sharing, and additional export formats.

A browser-based pilot development studio — structured boards for Season Structure, Pilot Episode Structure, Characters, and Notes. Start with the New Project wizard; open Project Settings anytime for setup details. It is not a blank-page word processor, not a full writers' room platform, and not a substitute for writing your script in Final Draft or another screenplay app. It helps you break story before you draft.
Exports are room-ready project documents — flowing prose in Word (.docx), PDF, or Final Draft (.fdx). They summarize your development work; they are not a formatted pilot screenplay with proper scene headings, dialogue, and pagination. Open File → Export pilot documents… to choose what to include and export as Word, PDF, Final Draft, or print. Word and PDF are on every plan; Final Draft (.fdx) and the Full Character Bible are Pro. FDX files are for Final Draft only — they do not import into WritersRoom Pro®. A native, structured export into WritersRoom Pro® exists, but only with the forthcoming WritersRoom Pro® v3 release, not the current v2.
No. WritersRoom Pro® is a separate professional writers' room product — optional, and never required to use TV Pilot Builder®. Develop your pilots here, on Free or Pro, and export to whatever apps you want, when you want, if you want.
TV Pilot Builder® lets a single user develop a pilot at a time, free for your first two. WritersRoom Pro® runs a full, collaborative professional writers' room across an entire season of a whole series or feature. TV Pilot Builder® is best for aspiring or first-time TV writers who want structure without much cost, organizing a pilot's spine, and working solo. WritersRoom Pro® is best for showrunners and writers' rooms breaking a full season, teams needing real-time collaboration, and multi-user production work.
We do not ever browse your pilots. Admin tools show account information (like email and total number of projects), not your story text. Row-level security means your account can only open your own projects. Your creative work remains yours — see our Privacy Policy for details.
Projects autosave in your browser and, when signed in, sync to your account in the cloud so you can pick up on another device. Cloud sync and autosave are best-effort — export project documents from time to time as your own backup. The app also keeps earlier autosave snapshots you can restore from the File menu.
No. Pilot templates are optional — pick one structure (Prestige Drama, Half-Hour Comedy, Broadcast Hour, Limited Series, or High-Concept Genre) per project, or work with plain boards only. The Deep Dive tools are optional too.
Optional structural guidance on Pro. Pilot Episode Structure and Characters each have their own Deep Dive switch in Settings, off by default. Pilot Episode Structure Deep Dive adds your pilot template's full beat sheet. Characters Deep Dive adds Unity of Opposites, Character Builder, and Cast Bible. Season Structure works differently — the Season Arc tab always shows the Beginning/Middle/End outline, and Pro accounts automatically see a genre-specific beat-by-beat breakdown nested inside each section.
TV Pilot Builder® has no built-in generative AI. Nothing here writes your pilot for you, trains on your work, or sends your story to a model. The optional AI Prompt Builder helps you frame development prompts to bring to whichever outside AI tool you choose on your own.
You will review our End User License Agreement, Terms, and Privacy Policy once before your first project opens. Your stories remain yours; the agreement covers how we host and operate the service.
Click your profile icon at the bottom of the dashboard's left sidebar, then Profile. You can change your password, update your profile details, toggle Dark Mode, or permanently delete your account there — no need to contact us.
No live collaboration. Each account is for a single user — there are no team seats or multi-writer editing. On Pro, you can share a password-protected copy of a project with someone else, but it's a shared copy, not simultaneous shared editing.
Yes, on Pro. Share a project as a password-protected file — the recipient enters the password to open their own copy, either read-only or editable.
Free accounts can develop up to two pilots at a time. Pro removes that limit. TV pilots only; this is not a general film or prose writing tool.
